Meloni: “Moro and Impastato symbols of the dark years of Italian history”. Mattarella in via Caetani

“Today we remember Aldo Moro and Peppino Impastato , two different figures who have marked the recent history of Italy, united by a tragic fate: on May 9, 1978, they lost their lives at the hands of two of the dark forces - the Red Brigades and Cosa Nostra - who bloodied our nation in the dark years of terrorism and the mafia", wrote the Prime Minister, Giorgia Meloni , on social media, on the Day of Remembrance dedicated to the victims of terrorism and massacres, sharing a photo of Aldo Moro and Peppino Impastato.
The first "a man of the institutions, kidnapped and killed by those who wanted to bend the State with violence and ideological intolerance", the second "assassinated for having denounced and challenged openly and fearlessly the mafia power. Two symbols, fallen moreover in the midst of those 'years of lead' that marked Italy with the blood of too many innocents: servants of the State, representatives of the institutions, citizens, young people of different political ideas", adds the prime minister.
In the morning, the President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella laid a wreath in via Caetani, under the tombstone of Aldo Moro where 47 years ago, on May 9, 1978, the body of the statesman was found. With the head of state were also the presidents of the Senate, Ignazio La Russa ; of the Chamber, Lorenzo Fontana ; of the Constitutional Court, Giovanni Amoroso ; the Minister of the Interior, Matteo Piantedosi ; the president of the Lazio Region, Francesco Rocca ; the mayor of Rome, Roberto Gualtieri . The ceremony of the Day of Remembrance dedicated to the victims of terrorism is taking place in the Chamber. Afterwards, a delegation of the Democratic Party was also on site, led by secretary Elly Schlein, with the two group leaders, Chiara Braga and Francesco Boccia , together with Cecilia D'Elia, Andrea Casu, Federico Fornaro and Andrea De Maria .

“My grandfather is still alive,” is the memory of the statesman’s grandson, Luca Moro . "In the inexorable flow of time, which bears the unbearable weight of an ancient pain, the most important thing that can be done now, in the now, right in this present moment (the only time span over which we men have power) is to give voice to Aldo Moro. Let him and only him speak, since here they always take away and deny him the word as if he were an object instead of a person. It is up to us to listen to him with an open and attentive heart. Stopping to meditate and reflect in order to reach a unitary understanding of the person, of the role, of the teaching, of the goodness, of the love, of the sanctity. Because each person is an inseparable whole. I consider the following period a special political testament of my grandfather Aldo: 'We do not want to be the men of the past, but those of the future. Tomorrow does not belong to conservatives and tyrants: it belongs to attentive, serious innovators, without rhetoric. And that tomorrow in civil society belongs, also for this reason, largely to the revolutionary and saving force of Christianity. Let us therefore let the dead bury the dead. We are different, we want to be different from the tired and dear supporters of a world that is now out of date. And this 'world that is now out of date', in my opinion, is the one that wants to continue to keep (for how much longer?) Aldo Moro relegated, imprisoned, as usual, inside an evil trunk", continues his nephew. "It almost seems, I say this without fear of being wrong, that many people fail to realize that Aldo Moro was alive before he died. And it is in his life that the truth must be sought".
His grandson Luca continues: "My grandfather was an important person, not only and not so much because he was destined for an atrocious death (which one should not wish even on one's enemies), but because in life he made decisive, essential, far-sighted choices (some unpopular and incomprehensible at the time, but decisive for the future). It is therefore the way in which he led his life that must be studied and well understood, if we want to understand something about the meaning and the manner of his terrible death. Otherwise, debating the Moro case is a dialectical exercise, which adds confusion to confusion and gives us further and useless pain".
"To know Aldo Moro, you have to study his life through his words, his writings, in a word, his teaching. This teaching transcends time and remains to testify to the superiority of the spirit over matter, the victory of life over death. Teaching that cannot be killed or erased, immortal and "immovable" teaching that is a gift (it is the gift) of great importance and of inestimable value. It is a spiritual legacy - observes Luca Moro - and consists in knowing how to be in harmony with the vibrations of the heart, in harmony with the vibrations of a pure heart that by its very nature is as light as a feather". "It is about knowing how to recognize, despite appearances, that "every person is a universe" and also knowing how to find in everyone and in everything that first principle, spark of love and life, luminous and ineffable principle that grandfather called light".
